I spoke with REALTOR Mark Puett about his SRES designation, to gain insight into why this particular designation helps you! This is what he had to say.
What exactly is an SRES Designation and what does it stand for?
Mark: The SRES designation is a National Association of REALTORS designation specifically designed to help agents work with intergenerational moving situations. SRES stands for Senior Real Estate Specialist, but it does not just fit the senior citizen category.
What did you expect when you decided to take this class and earn this designation?
Mark: I didn’t know what to expect when taking the class for the SRES designation. I found out that it wasn’t just about working with Seniors, but all of the different generations along with their motivations and driving influences. Seniors grew up in a time that you followed the rules and didn’t necessarily “make waves”. They are looking for a guide… someone to do the job for them… they do not want to really “learn” the process. The younger generations think they can do it themselves with a little help from the internet. An experienced agent know the pitfalls that can be experienced during a Real Estate transaction and can help a client avoid or manage these issues and help the generations in a family work together.
How would you say the SRES designation helps you work with all generations, not just seniors?
Mark: The SRES designation training gives an agent the insight to understand the different generations and how to best work with them. It is interesting that prior to the training I had noticed many of the differences with clients, but didn’t really consider those differences to be generational.
What else can you tell me about this designation?
Mark: It is a designation that is well worth the time to achieve as it helps me deal with different styles of home buyers and sellers. In addition, information was provided on the options available for older adults to possibly stay in their home, downsize or find other alternative housing. Also, working with the children of older adults is covered as this can be a stressful time for them especially if they are not in town, they want to make sure their parents are in good hands.
