Families and individuals have been impacted all around the globe with the changes caused by the current pandemic. We find solitude in going to our Ranch in Wyoming during this difficult time and being able to be in nature. We also enjoy getting ourselves lost in a novel and transporting into our own imaginations. Recently I read a quote that stated the best part of reading is how everyone can be reading the exact same thing but each person interrupts it so differently. Reading between the lines and applying your own opinions and perspective, only enriches the experience. With kids being home, rather than at school, and soon starting online schooling, we encourage everyone to start their summer reading early and get lost in an adventure, or embraced by a compassionate tale. Then when summer hits you can advance your interests with more books and if you ever want to know the cure to cabin fever…it’s reading!
Reading is so valuable and so important! That is why at RE/MAX Capitol Properties we are the presenting sponsor of the 2020 and 2021 Summer Reading Celebration. This year’s theme is “Imagine Your Story.” What a better time to start, than now! We started to sponsor this because we know just how valuable and important reading is to us during our lifetimes. Research published by the Brookings Institution in 2017 shows that children lose at least a months’ worth of hard-earned academic progress over the summer. Children from low-income families lose an average of two months’ worth! As few as five books read over the summer can change that and now that kids are home sooner with the restrictions, there is more reason to make reading a part of your daily routines at home.
