The Rainsford Historic District, located just east of Downtown Cheyenne, encompasses many Victorian houses by architect George D. Rainsford. The neighborhood holds historical significance to the Cheyenne area while evolving into a modern-day, family-friendly community.
Named after eastern architect George Rainsford, the Rainsford district was built between 1885 and the early 1930s. These traditional-style homes represent a simplified structure that has been mimicked throughout Cheyenne’s Downtown neighborhoods while representing the natural expansion of Cheyenne during the Cattle Boom. This neighborhood was formerly known as “Cattle Baron Row.”
Many of the Rainsford District homes have been expanded, repurposed, or are awaiting their transformation. This neighborhood includes the former Wyoming Governor’s Mansion and the William Sturgis House, both individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Enjoy local dining, city parks, and entertainment, all within walking distance from this district.
