Remembering Mothers

Time in this life is so fragile, and we never know how long we have to live on this little blue dot sailing through space.

I was planning on writing something different, but as I write tonight and get this blog ready, my heart is heavy. We have just lost two close family members in 9 days. Sadly, this affects us greatly as we come up to Mother’s Day.

Mothers are special and yet, sometimes they have to face the sorrow of burying their own children. These two deaths have brought back the tragedy of losing my 22 year old brother to a massive heart attack almost 23 years ago. In that incident and with the two family members we just lost, it happened so fast that nobody was able to say goodbye.

I share this personal anecdote as a reminder to each of you to cherish the time with those you love. Mothers loved us and raised us to be the people we are today. My mother (or mum) is from England and raised six children. My dad was military and then in the ministry so we moved a great deal. During those years, they always sought to make a house into a home, no matter how big or small the home may have been.

The buying and selling of real estate can consume our lives and can cause a lot of stress. However, it is important to take time to remember the important things of life before it is too late.

This coming Sunday is Mothers’ Day. My British mum celebrates twice a year – once in March for British Mothers’ Sunday and then in May for the American Mothers’ Day.

So, to my mum, my lovely wife who is the mother of five, and to all mothers, I would like to extend a special thank you in remembrance of Mothers’ Day. If you still have your mom, don’t wait to call her and tell her you love and appreciate her. That also goes for any others in your life who are special to you.

Thankful for mothers,
