Due to COVID-19 the Red Kettle Kick Off Luncheon could not be held in person this year, so we had to transition it to a virtual event. This year has been more challenging than normal for those who were already having a hard time making ends meet. Our local Salvation Army has experienced a significant increase in everyday people and families coming to us for help. Our programs and services are providing significant support to those families needing additional assistance. This year we have experienced about a 200% increase in most services we provide. Last year we gave out an average of 25, 30 day food boxes, and this year we are distributing closer to 60 food boxes a week. We have helped 62 families stay in their homes through our rent assistance program. We have assisted in reuniting families and getting those in need to Salvation Army rehabilitation centers by providing transportation. We provide daily food, hygiene kits, case management and many other services, but we can’t do it alone, so this year especially, we are looking for community help.
