So you’re ready to buy a house…but where do you start?
Hi, I’m Steve Prescott, the broker at RE/MAX Capitol Properties. Around here, we know the best way to get started is to build a team of reliable, trustworthy professionals to guide you through the process. This team will include your Realtor and your lender, who will work together throughout the transaction. We recommend that you have both of these key people in place before you start looking at houses, especially in Cheyenne’s fast-paced market.
- POSITIONED FOR SUCCESS: Your lender will be able to help you determine what price range you should be looking in, whether that number is based on how much you can, or how much you want to spend is up to you! Then your real estate agent can help you determine what kinds of amenities that number will afford you. It’s good to have an idea of what you’re looking for when you start, for example: how many bedrooms, bathrooms, garages, and more. You should know what you are willing to compromise on and what you aren’t willing to let go or deal with. Now you’re ready to start the search, you’ve got your pre-qualification, and people on your side to help you see through the process.
- SHOP AROUND: Your realtor will send you homes that fit your criteria and you can send them homes you see as well–our website makes it really easy to alert your agent when you see something you like. Your agent can get you into any home listed in town, but be aware that many require notice. You’ll tour homes until you find the right fit at which point your agent will advise you on the best way to make it yours. It is important to remember that your agent is only giving you their opinion based on their knowledge of the market–ultimately, the price and terms you offer are up to you. Typically, your closing date will be 30 to 45 days after the offer is accepted to allow time for your lending, inspections, and appraisal.
