Should you use your friend’s, aunt’s, high school friend, who sells two homes a year? Or should you go with an agent who works every day in real estate? I recommend that you find the best realtor for you that works in the business as a career! Follow these steps below and you will end up with an agent that is looking out for you. You’ll spend a lot of time with this person in the coming months, so find one you like!
The beauty of online real estate shopping today is the ability to research agents. You can find out the number of closed transactions an agent has to validate the agent is actually engaged in the business. See how many reviews the agent has and what others say about that agent. Check out the agent’s interests and then align yourself with the one who shares your same interests. Check on experience for the agent, but I do not believe that the number of years in the business is the best indicator for quality of an agent.
Ask your friends, family and co-workers –
People will happily tell you what they think, good or bad. Ask around in your circles for agent recommendations, then take that information and compare it to what you find online.
After you narrow down a list to two or three agents, then interview each one. Ask the questions that are important to you. Ask about his/her experience, marketing plan, communication style, and negotiation style. If you use technology in your daily life, then you probably won’t work well with someone who doesn’t have a cell phone. If you like to have face-to-face communication, then someone who only uses text may not work for you. In the end go with your gut!
