Many people like new things – new cars, new toys, new puppies, new babies, new jobs, etc. Every one of your senses get involved with the new and help to establish new memories that soon override the old memories.
One of my favorite new things are books. I am a published author and I love the smell of ink on newly printed books. I love getting a new box of books delivered to my home. I love the smell of a going into a new bookstore and rifling through new treasures, even though they may be old.
Another favorite new thing to me is a house. As a Realtor, there are times we go into a home that is vacant. You can tell it has been closed up for a little while. Soon the house is sold and the new family begins the process of moving in and making it a home. They may put out new candles, have new furniture, and new meals being cooked. All of these produce new smells creating more new memories.
We are now in 2018 and it is a new page of a new day in a new year. Children born in 2000 become adults this year. They will establish new memories by going off to college, getting full time jobs, joining the military, or just going wherever they think their new found freedoms want to take them.
Our lives move so fast from old to new and back to old again. We can grow complacent even though we have never been down the newness of this year before. In fact, we will never be here again.
