June first was the start of the Laramie County Library Summer Reading Challenge, but you can sign up at any time!
To participate there are signup instructions on the Laramie County Library Foundation website, and it doesn’t require having to go into the library. You can do it online!
You simply create or log into a Beanstack account OR visit a Laramie County Library System location in Cheyenne, Burns, or Pine Bluffs, or the Bookmobile.
One day of reading is equivalent to only 20-30 minutes of reading. Reading can be actually sitting to read a book or listening to an audiobook. For every 5 days of reading, you will receive a level prize, 5 tickets to enter into prize drawings, and one badge. You can log reading in Beanstack or in a reading log (or both).
Visit any library branch to pick up prizes. You can pick up prizes after each level of the challenge you complete, or you can pick them up all at once after completing the challenge. When you have logged 25 days of reading (or listening), you will receive a completion prize, which includes a free book for youth and teens and a fun prize for adults (previous adult prizes have included pint glasses, notebooks, and reading lights)!
Once you accomplish the goal of reading for 25 days, we encourage you to read for a cause. For every additional 5 days that you read a business will make a donation to a non-profit in Laramie County. There are also some activities you can do to earn extra tickets too! This would be visiting a Library event, or going on a walk! If you participate in the activities listed in Beanstack and in the reading log, you will earn additional drawing tickets and badges. Each activity is worth a specific number of tickets and can help increase your chances of winning a cool drawing prize!
If you are not able to pop into the Library to get some new reading, you can get some books from the Bookmobile when she visits. She has a whole schedule for the summer that will keep Susan busy with bringing you great options for your Summer Reading Challenge.
Things to know about using the Bookmobile:
- A valid Laramie County Library System library card is required to check out items. If you don’t have one, we can make you one; just bring your photo ID and proof of your Laramie County address.
- All library materials can be returned to the Bookmobile or to any Laramie County Library location.
- Don’t see an item on the Bookmobile you’d like to check out? Materials may be requested from other Laramie County Library locations and checked out on the Bookmobile.
- When Laramie County Library is closed for holidays and other occurrences, the Bookmobile is also closed. Additionally, sometimes service may be suspended due to inclement weather or maintenance/mechanical issues.
