As red roses, chocolates, and freakishly large stuffed bears begin to crowd the stores, it’s impossible to forget that Valentine’s Day is just two weeks away. It’s the season of love, and there are so many people, places, and things to love within our community. Cheyenne, you are a one-of-a-kind town, and you truly make us love what we do. During this time of year, it’s tradition to do something special for the person you love. And if you are in a relationship, you might be racking your brain to think of something. While there is a lot of pressure to provide lavish gifts, remember the point isn’t who gives the best gift, rather it’s spending time together and connecting with each other. So, whether you go out or stay in, here are a few ways to spend a date night in Cheyenne.
Ice Skating
As countless romantic comedies will tell you, ice skating is the perfect couples’ activity. Whether you’re wobbly on your skates or not, it gives you the perfect excuse to hold your Valentine’s hand. Cheyenne Ice and Events Center often hosts a couple’s skate night on V-Day, check out their website for a schedule.
Wine tasting
For any wine-loving couple, Vintages Handcrafted Wine provides a world-class experience whether you’re a “wine snob” or totally new to wine. With expert guidance, you will blend the perfect suited to your preferences. Plus, this date night includes a fun follow-up date when you return to bottle your wine. Having wine, blended, bottled, and labeled by you makes for a date you’ll remember long after. Tastings are Thursday through Saturday, so give them a call to schedule yours!
Painting and Pints with Flydragon Studio @ Freedom’s Edge Brewing Co.
If wine isn’t your thing and you’re a beer lover, this paint n’ sip makes a perfect night out. Two local businesses team up every second Monday to bring you a guided painting session with all your supplies, plus a pint provided.
A night out downtown
We have many local restaurants that offer Valentine’s Day specials and host entertainment. Enjoy the lights downtown, have a meal at your favorite restaurant, and catch a show. Check out the event schedule at downtowncheyenne.com to see all the options!
Go on a hike
We might typically think of hiking as a summer-only activity, but the winter offers some unparalleled landscapes not to be missed. Wyoming is not known for gentle winters, but the harshness of our seasons only adds to the quiet majesty of places like Vedauvoo. Grab your partner, bundle up, and enjoy the fresh air and the gorgeous landscapes together.
Star Gazing
The big cities boast of having countless things to do, but an estimated 80% of the population has never seen the Milky Way due to light pollution. Our Wyoming night sky is amazing, but we often don’t make time to appreciate it. If you want a quiet but romantic evening, grab lots of blankets, fill a thermos with some hot chocolate, and most importantly, ditch the cell phones as you enjoy the splendor of the night sky.
Cook a romantic dinner together
We love being home to celebrate joyful occassions and Valentine’s Day is no different. Cooking a romantic dinner together is a sweet way to spend the evening. Find a delicious recipe you both want to try, grab your favorite bottle of wine or sparkling soda, and enjoy a warm, home-cooked meal. And, if this Valentine’s Day is anything like last year’s and it’s cold outside, then you’ll likely want to stay in. Pro-tip: even if everything goes awry and you burn your meal into oblivion, laugh it off. There’s always pizza!
Make a scrapbook of your relationship
If you’re a couple in today’s world, you probably have thousands of photos together on your camera roll, maybe even some that you may have forgotten about. What better way to celebrate your love than taking a trip down memory lane together as you create a memento that will last through the years.
However you chose to celebrate this year, we hope you have a very happy Valentine’s Day in this amazing community we call our home. We love you, Cheyenne, you are a great place to call home.
